Benzotrichloride, reacts violently with strong oxidants, metals (especially iron), alkali and earth alkali metals, bases and organic substances causing fire and explosion hazard. It decomposes by heating, by contact with acids and water to produce hydrogen chloride and benzoic acid.
Applications:
Benzotrichloride is used to manufacture benzoyl chloride, chlorinated toluenes, benzotrifluoride and other intermediates for certain dyestuffs, agrochemicals and UV stabilizers.
